At 3pm April 13 (local time), the first unit of Neelum-Jhelum (NJ) Hydropower Project in Pakistan undertaken by Harbin Electric Machinery Company Limited (HEC) began its grid-connected power generation. Mr. Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, the prime minister of Pakistan, attended the ceremony for celebrating the successful power generation and pressed the start-up button, initiating the formerly commercial operation of the first unit of the important forerunning project (i.e. NJ hydropower project) for the China-Pakistan economic corridor.

The installed capacity of NJ project is 969MW. When all the units in the power station serve to supply power, the annual electric output will be about 5.15 billion kWh, accounting for 12% of Pakistan's total electric output, 15% of people in Pakistan will be relieved from electricity shortages, and 45 billion rupees, approximately 2.7 billion RMB yuan, of financial revenue will be obtained.
