The Belt and Road | Unit 1 of Dubai Hassyan Power Plant, the First Clean Coal Power Plant in the Middle East, Achieves Synchronization Successfully at One Attempt
At 13:45 on May 18th, 2020, local time in Dubai, Unit 1 of Dubai Hassyan 4×600MW clean coal power plant project contracted by China Harbin Electric Corporation successfully achieved synchronization at one attempt. The parameters of various systems of the unit were normal, and the equipment was running smoothly with excellent quality.
As a major power project of “the Belt and Road” international cooperation and the first clean coal power plant in the Middle East, the successful synchronization of Hassyan power plant marks a significant breakthrough in the construction of the first power plant in the world that can achieve dual-fuel and full-load power supply, declaring that the first power plant project invested, constructed and operated by Chinese-funded enterprise has achieved great results in the Middle East under the framework of the “the Belt and Road” initiative, and is also a major milestone in the history of China ’s oversea power project construction.
As the key project mentioned in the signed article published by Chinese President Xi Jinping on the eve of his state visit to the UAE, the Hassyan project is the first investment project by the Silk Road Fund in the Middle East, and will also be the first clean coal power plant in the Middle East when it is completed. The Hassyan project is an important piece of puzzle of the energy diversification in Dubai. The project is equipped with 4 ultra-supercritical units with a total installed capacity of 2400MW. It has the ability to completely combust coal or natural gas as a backup fuel, which is the first power plant in the world that can achieve dual-fuel and full-load power supply. All of the four units will be put into commercial operation in 2023. After being put into operation, they will not only provide 20% of the power energy of Dubai, but also greatly reduce the electricity cost of local residential users, and will provide power guarantee for the Expo Dubai.
