As a major supplier of clean energy power generation equipment in China, Harbin Electric Corporation is committed to developing clean, efficient, green, and low-carbon power generation equipment. We began developing pumped storage units as early as the 1960s. Now, we can design and manufacture pumped storage units with single-unit capacities ranging from 50 MW to 425 MW, covering head ranges from 50m to 800m, with maximum runner diameters up to 6m and speeds from 100 r/min to 750 r/min. This capability covers the full range of head, speed, and capacity for single-stage pump-turbine generator units, which strongly support carbon peak and carbon neutrality goals and lead China's pumped storage equipment development into the "fast lane."
We have participated in the development of 40 pumped storage power plants and 147 pumped storage units, from the successful commissioning of China's first indigenously developed large pumped storage unit at the Xiangshuijian power plant to the four installations with a unit capacity of 375 MW commissioned in one year at the Xianju power plant; from the six installations commissioned in one year at the Liyang power plant, which boasts the largest head variation in China, to the "world's largest power bank", the Fengning pumped storage power plant providing entirely green electricity for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics; from the pioneering use of "fractional pole ratio winding technology" at the Huanggou power plant to the Tiantai pumped storage project, featuring the world's highest head and China's largest single-unit capacity; from the world's largest "hybrid pumped storage" project at Lianghekou to China's first key technology and equipment application project, the Taian phase II variable-speed pumped storage power plant. Now, we hold the highest share of the pumped storage hydroelectricity equipment market in China.
We have taken the lead by proposing the "high-low-wide-large-variable" R&D concept for future pumped storage development to achieve high head (maximum lift exceeding 800m), low head at high altitude (below 300m, even below 100m), wide head variation (ratio of maximum lift to minimum head exceeding statistical values), wide load range (widened stable operating range of units), large capacity (single-unit capacity exceeding 400 MW), large diameter (runner diameter exceeding 5m or even 6m), and variable speeds (AC excitation and full-power range variable speeds). We are developing new-generation pumped storage units featuring full head, speed, and capacity ranges.
